I am, Blackstone, Jessica Blackstone. In my two weeks here I assist in many arrests and deaths of human traffickers. A body part snatching ring takes my left arm and my left eye. My twin babies are born early and I attend lot's of funerals for fallen officers as a pallbearer. I am fitted with a mechanical arm and a mechanical eye.
The only Marine here and I got to represent. Am a captain of the Marine Corps, assigned to a base in Afghanistan. Because of a shirts and skins American Football game I am sent into what even locals call, Hell. As the forward fire team, the crew I am assigned to that forces the reassignment of another just to put me on this suicide scout fire team. We must brave the elements going through several villages to get to an area locals have dubbed Hell and other military personnel have dubbed, Hell within Hell.
My commander dies about a week into my tour in Turkey and then six months in I am left for dead in the sand by the enemy. Something strange is going on deep underground with prisoners of war. Geneva has been gone for a decade. A military outpost or office functions as a base and a police station in a small southern town in Alaska. Staying in a cabin is a new experience for me and the surprise promotion to Brigadier General scares me.
Definitely being Brigadier General implies that I will be in charge of something big from space. Am I prepping for the eventual living on Mars and what does that mean for my extended stay in space in order to be on Venus too. Strange things lurk in the lake and a massive grizzly bear tries to eat me. I lose a foot to a large shark and more of me becomes mechanical. I miss my five kids already, three tours and then soon I will be in space for seven years.
In isolation from my family before take off hits home that I don't spend enough time with my kids. An eighteen month journey to Mars to almost die the first day I land on the planet. Losing an eye is the least of my problems when I cannot find any signs of life of the Mars team that came here in 2026 and it is 2044 when I finally get here with my crew.
